Features

Three formats, one source

The PDF is typeset for sending and printing. The EPUB reflows to a reading device. The DOCX uses paragraph styles so you can add a chapter. All three come from the same content, so they cannot drift apart.

Why not one “universal” format

Because they do three different jobs and each rules the others out. A PDF looks the same everywhere, which is exactly why it cannot be edited sensibly or enlarged on a small screen. An EPUB lets the reader choose the typeface and size, so it has no fixed page layout. A DOCX opens in Word and accepts changes, but looks however someone else's machine renders it. Picking one would leave two of those needs unmet.

PDF — to send

Full typesetting: cover, numbered contents, running heads. This is the file you send a client or take to a printer.

EPUB — to read

One file per chapter, with device navigation and contents. The reader sets the typeface and size; the layout follows the screen.

DOCX — to edit

Paragraph styles instead of typesetting. Add a chapter, drop in a logo, change the typeface — and save it as your own file.

Step by step

What to use when

  1. 1

A lead magnet on a landing page

PDF. It opens in the browser without downloading and looks identical for every visitor — and with material meant to build credibility, that is the whole point.

  2. 2

    Handouts for a training session

PDF to print and hand out. If you want to add the agenda for a specific date, take the DOCX, add it, and export to PDF on your side.

  3. 3

    A product for sale

PDF and EPUB together — ebook stores usually expect both. Plus the commercial licence, without which selling is not permitted.

  4. 4

A basis for your own publication

DOCX. Treat it as a first draft from an author: change what you want and typeset it your way.

In practice

The DOCX page count will differ from the PDF

And that is not a fault. Word reflows text with its own engine, a different typeface and different margins, so the same content occupies a different number of pages. What matches is the content, not the pagination. We say this because it is the one difference between formats that regularly looks like a defect.

1 → 3

One body of content, three formats. A fix to the content lands in all of them at once.

Why it works this way

How we know the formats will not drift

Because a chapter is not stored as HTML or as finished text, but as a list of blocks: paragraph, callout, checklist, table. Each format draws those blocks in its own way. If the model returned finished HTML, the DOCX would be either ugly or rewritten by a parser — and it would start to differ in content, not only in appearance.

Frequently asked questions

Are the editable formats a separate charge?

Yes, EPUB and DOCX are added together as one line item at checkout. The PDF is included in the base price and you always get it.

Can I add the formats after buying?

Write to us with your order number — the content is with us and producing the other files does not mean writing the book again. Buying them from the panel afterwards is not possible yet.

Does EPUB work on Kindle?

Yes. Amazon accepts EPUB through Send to Kindle and converts it on their side. We do not produce MOBI, which Amazon has retired.
